Fractions and Percentages

Finding a fraction of a number:

To find a fraction of a number we divide the number by the number by the bottom of a fraction and multiply it by the number at the top.

eg. 3/8 of 32
1/8 or 32 is 4 so 3/8 of 32 = 4 x 3 = 12


Percentages:

Percentages as a fraction are always out of 100.

eg. 35% means 35/100

when we convert percentages to decimals we divide by 100
when we convert decimals to percentages we multiply by 100

eg. 35% = 0.35
      0.15 = 15%

Finding a percentage of a number:

If we want to find a percentage of a number, we must convert it either to a fraction or decimal

Then we use MULTIPLICATION

eg. 10% of 70 = 10/100 x 70 or 0.1 x 70 = 7
      30% of 50 = 30/100 x 50 or 0.3 x 50 = 15

 This task took me a while to finish. At first the equations were really easy but as I got more into the presentation, I started to struggle with the last few topics.

In this task I generated a random number. My number is 159 this is me using the number in many different ways.

In this task I found data and I analysed it. There were patterns in my group survey and the only person not included as much was Vaivasa, one pattern was that 4 out of 5 people took mins or less to get to school. I really enjoyed this activity/task!
