Migration model

This diagram shows the mainstream and counter stream flow between tokelau and NZ. There are many different push and pull reasons people move/have moved from tokelau to NZ. Push reasons are things that make people leave their place of origins negative things, for example having to move due a war that may be happening. Pull reasons are the positive reasons that attract people to a new destination. Like wanting to move for better education, resources and technology. The obstacles people might face when moving are money, ( not having enough ) not being able to find work. The mainstream flow are the people moving to NZ from tokelau and the counter stream flow are people who are moving back home. The mainstream flow is bigger because there are more people wanting to be in a bigger place/more advanced place.

New things about tokelau

Today in sos I learnt more about tokelau, for example I learnt how most tokelauans became christians by the 1850s and how from atafu to nukunonu is 92km and then from nukunonu to fakaofo is 64km across the rough ocean. I also found out that tokelau gets and average of 2,500mm of rain per year.
Something interesting I found out was that slave ships from peru took more than half of the people on tokelau into slavery.

Reflection on game

Intro:
Have you ever created a game using code? Well if you have you should be excited
Task: For the past 10 weeks my partner, Seini and I were assigned to create a game on scratch using our knowledge from last terms experience. The theme was based on space. We needed to include space facts that we read off sites and set challenges for the main sprite in our game.

Starting our Game
Getting started was not a problem but moving on to the next levels was quite tricky. We had to broadcast our sprite on to another backdrop and add a code to the backdrop to receive the broadcast so it would switch backgrounds. If that second step wasn't included than the background would stay the same which was frustrating at times.

Problem Solving
Our second level had the most issues, when trying to get our sprite (spaceship) to shoot at the enemies. Luckily, we had the internet! Tutorials were really useful when we had no help from Zoe. We were eager to learn and extend our knowledge of coding especially if we didn't have an experienced coding adult in the room who worked at O.M.G Tech to help us with it.

Highlight Levels
Level three and four were our easiest levels to work on. The third level had 15 martians attacking and one bullet point where you had to get to; to receive your bit of space information. Our fourth and last level, showed the earth orbiting the sun and had some obstacles around it to block the sprites way from reaching earth.

Conclusion
Unfortunately, my partner and I were terrible at communicating. We also weren't the best group at managing our time as well as w could have. Our game could have been better and more complex if we had done so. So these are one of the main things we need to work on for next time. Overall though putting beside our communication Seini and I created an amazing game and I especially thank her for that.

Introduction to Probability

Walt: investigate probability
In this task I found the answer to the questions. The question I found the most challenging was on slide 4 but I found it easier throughout the whole presentation.

Game reflection so far

Have you ever used coding to create your very own game? Well for the past 10 weeks in Extension class Seini and I have been creating a space game. We have had a small struggle with getting the spaceship to shoot but we are getting there. One of our most struggles were communication but it has gotten better every week. Today we completed our game with and extra level and 3 fun facts! Last term we made a different game which was a maze one but this term it’s focused more on space and sharing facts and fun. Our whole focus so far this year has been coding using mostly scratch and a little bit of code combat. Before actually starting our game we found out more information about space right here:

Our knowledge with coding had definitely grown alot so far this year. It took alot of different solutions in our game as we had alot of glitches especially with a bonus level.

Food Tech Week 7

Today in Food tech we made mini quiches. I made the pasty and my partner Anahere made the filling.
What you will need for mini quiches:
Measuring cups, Large mixing bowl, sharp knife, chopping boards, wooden spoon, 12 cup muffin tray, cookie cutter. For the pastry I used:
130gms or flour, 25-50gms of butter and Water.
How to make the pastry:
First mix the butter and flour with your hand till they form a crumb-like consistency. Once you think it is right slowly add water little by little until of a doughy texture while continuously mixing. Once you have made your pastry you will need to roll it into a thin sheet then with a cookie cutter cut 12 perfect circles. For the filling: you will need bacon, 1 egg, half a spring onion, cheese and salt and pepper.
chop the bacon and combine bacon with egg in small mixing bowl then dice spring onion and cheese then mix. Once the filling and pastry is made, spray muffin tray with cooking oil and place the pastry circles then add the filling. cook for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. this is how Anahere and my quiches turned out.

Plays and poetry

Walt: analyse and adapt spoken words with expression and confidence.

In this task we had to analyse texts and their confidence towards speeches, We learnt about how people have different ways of oral speech and how it travels around to others. Some people haven't adapted to saying speeches and sometimes I can be one of those people. Plays and Poetry are our main focus for week 6.

Week 6 Inquiry Project

Our Project is to make bag hooks for classrooms in the school who are in need of them. During our research we have learnt that only team 4 and 5 are the only groups that need bag hooks. In team 5 we have most of the student bags on the ground instead of on the bag hooks that we have in our space, some student say the we need more bag hooks so that the students bags can fit on one side of each bag hooks.

We met with Mrs Tele’a to confirm our project and we also shared with her the materials needed and the quantity needed to make this possible. We talked about how many hooks could fit on one pole and how many rows we wanted. Soon we decided to have eight on each pole for now and we also wanted a lock plan for the lockers as many are locked with lost combinations.

The Power Of Biogas

Walt: gather and synthesise to evaluate information across a range of texts.

In this task I learnt the power of Biogas and where it comes from and how to produce it.
I found out that using just cow manure and water you can produce a gas and/or gases.

Exo brake Parachute

This is what i have learnt in extension this morning. It is about the 'Exo brake' parachute. The explanation of it is in the photo above. I found out more about space and also learnt what and exo brake actually is.

Walt: Gather and synthesise to evaluate information across a range of texts.

In this task I learnt about making clever clothes and keeping houses warm or cool.

The Heat Transfer Process

This is the heat transfer process looks like. There are three steps. The first one explains why energy moves. The second part of the process shows where the heat moves. Lastly the third part states the speed of heat in trapped air.

Statistics

Walt: identify and interpret different graphs
In this task I collected different types of graphs and made my own line graph.

Staying warm and keeping cool

Walt: gather and synthesise to evaluate information across a range of texts.

Last week our learning task was focused on a story: Warming up and cooling down.
I created a poster displaying the heat transfer process.  I also have an experiment for you to try out.

Immersion Assembly

This morning we had the annual start of the term immersion assembly.  To start it off Hendrix said the school Karakia and Heather said the Mihi.  Mr Burt first shared with us the history and technology of our Netbooks/Chromebooks.  Then Teams; 1, 2 and 3 had their term focus was on learning about matatriki and making kites.  The team 4 focus was on Maori technology and how they lived before the pakeha arrived to New Zealand.  Lastly team 5 are focusing on making sure our block and school looks nice and has good presentation.

Algebra 2.0

Walt: solve algerbra equations through multiplication division and addition strategies.

In this task I leanrt to do algebra with addition multiplication and division. At first it was a struggle but eventually it was really easy. My favourite slide was the last one when I found out what Y equalled.

Fractions and decimals

Walt: use fractions and decimals in every day life.

In this task I learnt to add fraction and decimals. I think that it was easy to add the fractions because they had the same denominator. I prefer to add decimals because it was easier.

Matuari bay

Walt: plan a narrative using my creative mind

This is my creative writing. I wrote this story about a made up girl.
I enjoyed writing by myself because it was fun to be creative.
