Shark day

Walt:  know that other people might take a different judgement  from the same information.

I learnt that other people don't see thing exactly the way that you do . In this activity I put myself into other peoples shoes and saw things in a different way.

Have you Been to a school camp?

WALT: Organize my ideas into paragraphs and link them together.

Have you ever slept in tent city? Well I have and it  was fun. One of my Room mates were one of my leaders which was funny her name is rosalina. This is what went down.

The year 5 and 6 camp has been going for 25 years now and it is getting more exciting every year. At this camp you get to sleep in a tent with either one or two other people and they will be your room mates in this case mine were rosalina and patricia.

My favourite highlight was kayaking. Mrs garden explained all the rules to my group. We then got to choose a life jacket that we could fit. I went into a single kayak and then a double and found out that going on a single kayak makes you go faster.
Another highlight about camp was going to the mangere pools. My favourite part about it was that in the last 30 minutes we all got to go into the bombing. The deep pool was fun I remembered it from last year it was extremely deep but this year it wasn't so bad.

This years camp was awesome I loved it even more than I did last year. I really enjoyed my camp. Have you ever gone to a school camp?

I learnt that camp is more fun than it sounds. Mr Goodwin gave us the task to write a recount about the year five and six camp.

The Maritime Museum and Malama Honua

Yesterday the year 5\6 extension group and some other selected children went to the Maritime Museum to learn about the Hikianalia. It is the Hokule'a's sister waka. They traveled here from Hawaii and next week they will be washing up the shore to the Pt England beach!

First we all got split up into three groups . The helper that was in my group was Miss Tito and we went to the star compass first there was a man and he explained the ways to use it.  He showed us that if you are leaving 'la' then you are entering 'la'.

Our second activity was the peace flags. With the peace flags we got a piece of fabric ,  wrote a message and hoped that when they travel maybe they would show the flag in america or other cool places.

My groups last activity was exploring the Hikianalia ourselves. We got split up into four groups.
I found out that to have a shower they would get a bucket of sea water splash themselves soap up and then splash again then dry themselves isn't that weird?

The year 5/6 camp

WALT: make connections across a wide range of texts.

Tomorrow is camp and to be reminded about how fun it is I visited kaycee's blog. Kaycee's  favourite part was kayaking because she was amused as she colidded with her friend and both of the kayaks flipped. She was nervous about the concert night but her group came second so she was cheered up.

Now I am way more excited about camp then I was yesterday. This is going to be the best camp ever. Have you been to a school camp before?

Shout out to kaycee what and amazing and inspiring post.

I had to do a Google search for this task and find a blog post from someone that went to the year 5/6 camp.

The tower challenge

Walt: write a detailed introduction with hook and orientation.

Has your teacher made you challenge your own class? My teacher Mr Goodwin got his own literacy class to do the tower challenge , that is when you make a tower out of something, in this case news paper. This is what happened.

It was a perfectly normal morning here in room 6’s literacy. Everyone made groups of five and Mr Goodwin gave out, one pair of scissors, one strip of masking tape and 5 and a half sheets of newspaper to each group. We got everything organized.
Yvonne , Talita , Heather , Adriel and Alisha were all in a group with me. My group and I tried to make it our tower stand without any support. We  folded a couple of sheets that were left over  , and used the masking tape to stick  the tower to the folded sheets of newspaper and while we worked not one of us were left out .

After eight minutes had passed Mr Goodwin judged our towers. The results were in and only two towers Made it to the judging  and the towers belong to Team rosalina and team talita. The centre metres were in and team talita won by 0.5 millilitres.

Room 6 really hope to have the tower challenge again and maybe there will be a different winner next time we never know!

Mr Goodwin got room six to make paper towers
